10 Useful LinkedIn Groups for Technical Writers

LinkedIn started out in the living room of its co-founder Reid Hoffman in 2002 and now operates the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with 161 million members in over 200 countries and territories. It is available in seventeen languages: English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

LinkedIn receives a new member after every half second. If you do not exist on LinkedIn then you are surely missing job and consulting opportunities available in this professional network. If you are present on LinkedIn, I invite you to get connected with me at

LinkedIn Groups

One of the interesting features of LinkedIn is LinkedIn professional groups. These groups offer a virtual discussion room to allow collaboration and discussion among like-minded professionals.

As of March 29, 2012 there are 1,248,019 such groups whose membership varies from 1 to 744,662. Writers, and especially technical writers, are members of several professional writing related LinkedIn groups. In this article I would share 10 LinkedIn groups that are quite useful for technical writers:

1. LinkEds & writers (Over 38,000 members)

2. Technical Writer Forum (Over 13,000 members)

3. Documentation and Technical Writing Management (Over 5000 members)

4. Technical Writer (Over 4800 members)

5. Documentation Managers (Over 1600 members)

7.  Agile Technical Writers

8.  Technical Writer of Writers

9.  The Content Wrangler Community (Over 8800 members)

10. DITA Awareness Group  (Over 2700 members)

Are you a member of LinkedIn? Do you use any LinkedIn groups and find them useful? Leave a comment and let me know.
